Range Rover P38 Holland And Holland 4.8 litre petrol believed to be Collaboration prototype car number 1 and the brochure car. T registered 1999 Holland and Holland Range Rover in Tintern Green with Saddle leather and tan piping. The car has 12 months MOT and the car runs very well. The body work is in very good condition for its age although there is some lacquer peel in a number of areas.
The headlining is failing in one part of the rear but the interior is in excellent condition overall. The engine was uprated and rebuilt by JE developments with an increase in capacity from 4.6 to 4.8 litres less than 20,000 miles ago.
I have emails from JE confirming the following specifications. Top hat liner block 94.04mm bore, Die cast pistons, Custom steel conrods, 86.36mm stroke crankshaft. And of those only 20 had the Sony rear entertainment system. That makes this car rare indeed. Furthermore, research now suggests that this was the very first of the collaboration models and was used for the brochure. I have no definitive proof of this but have written to Jaguar Landrover Heritage and await a response. The following facts also point to it being Prototype car #1. The first 100 cars were manufactured in 2000.This car was manufactured in 1999. The car was originally painted black and this is stated on the V5. The black colour can be seen under the bonnet and in the boot.. The Range Rover badge on the bonnet and tailgate are in Charcoal as in the brochure whilst production cars were in Silver.
Holland and Holland P38 enthusiasts have confirmed my suspicions. If this is true then this will make it a very rare but most importantly a unique model worthy of any collection.
